The path to true love is rarely as straightforward or predictable as it is presented in Hollywood movies. This also applies to the love of quality. To mark the occasion, some of our most knowledgeable quality lovers tell us how they found their way home.
Susan Ballhausen Bjelke, CEO of SIQ, the Institute for Quality Development.
How and when did you fall for quality?
- That's when I realized how important long-term systematic quality work is to meet customer expectations and requirements. That is, when I saw the link to the business and the success of the business. That it's about the whole organization's culture, leadership, decision-making and way of working. In my early career in product development in industry, quality was the most "annoying" ISO 9000 requirement from auditors.
What do you like most about the quality field?
- That it is about the whole. It cuts across all functions and any silos in the organization. Quality is about getting everyone to look at the same thing - with the customer and other stakeholders in focus. This creates the conditions for everyone to pull in the same direction - without micromanagement in everyday life.
